Feast of St. Nicholas

December 6th was the Feast of St. Nicholas. St. Nicholas was an actual person who would travel around his area on Christmas Eve bringing small toys and trinkets to children in celebration of our Lord's birth. The character of Santa was based off this actual person. It is difficult to explain how Santa and St. Nicholas are "related" to a three year old (I don't even attempt it with Danny yet), but at the end of the day as long as Robbie realizes that we are celebrating Christ's birthday I will be satisfied!!!

I did not get a chance to take pictures of the boys discovering their shoes, but this was a "before" picture. Robbie woke up and walked right by these shoes and when I reminded him that they were there his eyes lit up and he went running for the shoes. He was so excited and pulled out each piece of candy and each toy slowly examining them because they were special gifts from Santa/St. Nick. This Christmas is so much fun so far!

Santa Visit 2011

Robbie and Danny visited Santa recently! Robbie was in awe of the man who he says is Jesus' best friend (we are trying to keep the focus on the "reason for the season"). He gave Santa a big hug and when Santa asked him what he wanted for Christmas robbie said "treats" - meaning sugary foods/cookies/candy. Santa asked if that was all and Robbie decided to push his luck and also ask for "toys". Santa asked him if he wanted any particular toys and Robbie said "bad guys". For whatever reason our little man does not want to be the super hero, he likes the bad guys. I think this is because a few children's cartoon movies recently have told the story from the bad guy's perspective and have made the lines a little blurry between right and wrong - we are now much more careful what he watches!!!

Danny on the other hand was not too sure of this guy in a red suit. He didn't necessarily cry, but he certainly was very concerned that his parents left him in the lap of a total stranger dressed in a very weird outfit!

It was so much fun to take the boys to see Santa. This Christmas has been so special so far because the boys bring the magic back to Christmas. I am planning on spoiling them with fun activities, homemade treats and hopefully lots of special memories!

Downtown Festival

And then he saw the chicken mascot for Zaxby's and gave him a hug! Danny is pointing at the balloon that flew away...he did not seem to understand that it could not be retrieved.

I am just sitting in the DC National airport waiting for my delayed flight. This is the end of a stretch of seven straight weeks of travel - I had another one of these stretches earlier in the year. All I can say is I am tired, my nerves are shot and I JUST WANT TO GET HOME!

An update on Kevin's practice - it is up and running! He has not had his "Grand Opening" yet because he is not ready for that, but he is at least seeing patients. The only problem is the patients he is seeing are non-paying patients so the next step is to get this not-for-profit thing turned into a profit making machine! Please keep this process in your prayers, this has been incredibly hard on both of us and we take turns losing our faith in making this decision!

The boys are doing great. Robbie is half way through potty training and luckily I have missed most of the accidents while traveling (wish I could say the same for Kevin, hehe). He is very proud of himself and is also sleeping through the night on many nights. Quite an improvement for the kids who slept in 45 min - 1.5 hr increments for the first 12 months!!! Danny is walking now and his biggest goal in life is to follow his older brother around and steal his toys. It is such a joy to watch these two!!!

Baby #3 is healthy and happy. I have another appointment next week and one month after that we will find out if we are having another boy or a girl! Yes, we decided to find out . . . what can I say, we just don't have the patience to wait!

I pray all is well with all of our friends family and loved ones. I miss all of you and wish I could post more often, especially with pictures of my boys (all three of them), but I guess I just need to take things one day at a time right now and cut myself some slack.

Oh, and I can feel baby #3 moving!!! It is so much fun to "play" with baby squiggles!

Wow, its been how long????

OK, I KNOW - I have been a bad bad blogger. Can I just make a few excuses that I know will not matter? Crazy busy job - with a new business development responsibility and a new boss who resides in France; Kevin opening LIFESPAN Chiropractic Centers; two busy kiddos who are into everything and are either fighting with one another or sharing and playing in such an adorable way ;); and well there is one more thing . . .

I am also three months pregnant with baby #3!!!

We are nervous and excited all at once. When baby #3 arrives (and everyone is guessing girl - including Robbie), we will have three children aged three and under. And if we cannot hurry and potty train Robbie we will have three in diapers at the same time two. Goal number one is getting Danny to walk independently (he is so close)! Goal number two is getting Robbie potty trained! Goal number three is getting Robbie and Danny to sleep in one room - without waking up all night long!!! These are lofty goals, but will put me much more at ease having a third baby!

I have about a zillion great pictures that I would like to share, lets see if I have some time to download them on one of my last days of vacation!

I do read everyone's blogs, but then I run out of time and can't post anything - and it is never worth a post without pictures (I am not funny or witty enough for that!)

I just saw this blog on my cousin's blog site. I thought it was perfect, sad and hilarious . . . hope you enjoy!

If you can handle all these lessons then you are ready for children....

Lesson 1

1. Go to the grocery store.
2. Arrange to have your salary paid directly to their head office.
3. Go home.
4. Pick up the paper.
5. Read it for the last time.

Lesson 2

Before you finally go ahead and have children, find a couple who already are parents and berate them about their...

1. Methods of discipline.
2. Lack of patience.
3. Appallingly low tolerance levels.
4. Allowing their children to run wild.
5. Suggest ways in which they might improve their child's breastfeeding, sleep habits, toilet training, table manners, and overall behavior.
Enjoy it because it will be the last time in your life you will have all the answers.

Lesson 3

A really good way to discover how the nights might feel...

1. Get home from work and immediately begin walking around the living room from 5PM to 10PM carrying a wet bag weighing approximately 8-12 pounds, with a radio turned to static (or some other obnoxious sound) playing loudly. (Eat cold food with one hand for dinner)
2. At 10PM, put the bag gently down, set the alarm for midnight, and go to sleep.
3. Get up at 12 and walk around the living room again, with the bag, until 1AM.
4. Set the alarm for 3AM.
5. As you can't get back to sleep, get up at 2AM and make a drink and watch an infomercial.
6. Go to bed at 2:45AM.
7. Get up at 3AM when the alarm goes off.
8. Sing songs quietly in the dark until 4AM.
9. Get up. Make breakfast. Get ready for work and go to work (work hard and be productive)

Repeat steps 1-9 each night. Keep this up for 3-5 years. Look cheerful and together.

Lesson 4

Can you stand the mess children make? T o find out...

1. Smear peanut butter onto the sofa and jam onto the curtains.
2. Hide a piece of raw chicken behind the stereo and leave it there all summer.
3. Stick your fingers in the flower bed.
4. Then rub them on the clean walls.
5. Take your favorite book, photo album, etc. Wreck it.
6. Spill milk on your new pillows. Cover the stains with crayons. How does that look?

Lesson 5

Dressing small children is not as easy as it seems.

1. Buy an octopus and a small bag made out of loose mesh.
2. Attempt to put the octopus into the bag so that none of the arms hang out.

Time allowed for this - all morning.

Lesson 6

Forget the BMW and buy a mini-van. And don't think that you can leave it out in the driveway spotless and shining. Family cars don't look like that.

1. Buy a chocolate ice cream cone and put it in the glove compartment.
Leave it there.
2. Get a dime. Stick it in the CD player.
3. Take a family size package of chocolate cookies. Mash them into the back seat. Sprinkle cheerios all over the floor, then smash them with your foot.
4. Run a garden rake along both sides of the car.

Lesson 7

Go to the local grocery store. Take with you the closest thing you can find to a pre-school child. (A full-grown goat is an excellent choice). If you intend to have more than one child, then definitely take more than one goat. Buy your week's groceries without letting the goats out of your sight. Pay for everything the goat eats or destroys. Until you can easily accomplish this, do not even contemplate having children.

Lesson 8

1. Hollow out a melon.
2. Make a small hole in the side.
3. Suspend it from the ceiling and swing it from side to side.
4. Now get a bowl of soggy Cheerios and attempt to spoon them into the swaying melon by pretending to be an airplane.
5. Continue until half the Cheerios are gone.
6. Tip half into your lap. The other half, just throw up in the air.

You are now ready to feed a nine- month-old baby.

Lesson 9

Learn the names of every character from Sesame Street , Barney, Disney, the Teletubbies, and Pokemon. Watch nothing else on TV but PBS, the Disney channel or Noggin for at least five years. (I know, you're thinking What's 'Noggin'?) Exactly the point.

Lesson 10

Make a recording of Fran Drescher saying 'mommy' repeatedly. (Important: no more than a four second delay between each 'mommy'; occasional crescendo to the level of a supersonic jet is required). Play this tape in your car everywhere you go for the next four years. You are now ready to take a long trip with a toddler.

Lesson 11

Start talking to an adult of your choice. Have someone else continually tug on your skirt hem, shirt- sleeve, or elbow while playing the 'mommy' tape made from Lesson 10 above. You are now ready to have a conversation with an adult while there is a child in the room.

This is all very tongue in cheek; anyone who is parent will say 'it's all worth it!' Share it with your friends, both those who do and don't have kids. I guarantee they'll get a chuckle out of it. Remember, a sense of humor is one of the most important things you'll need when you become a parent!

We experienced the first white Christmas since 1960 this year - I am so glad that we didn't miss this special event. It was so wonderful to experience the magic of Christmas with our little family.

Danny loved these chew toys that crinkle when you grab them. The dog in the background is from my mom - it is a coin bank and the dog barks and moves its ears and tail when you put coins in the bank. Robbie went crazy for it!
This was Robbie's favorite Christmas gift. It is a football "hat" (as Robbie calls it) with jersey and pants. He wears this non stop (literally). He begs to sleep in his football hat. He runs around the house yelling touchdown and tackle and tries to tackle us. I don't want him to play football, but it looks like I won't have a choice!

We started a new tradition in our family this year - we celebrated the Feast of Saint Nicholas. The night before the feast, you place your shoes outside of your bedroom door. During the night St. Nick places goodies inside your shoes. This celebration is actually where the Santa Claus character came from. St. Nick was an actual person early in the Christian church who would teach about Christ and leave trinkets and gifts. The boys loved this - we all had so much fun!

I just love this church, it is so beautiful!
Both of my son's baptisms were very special for me. I feel that my most important responsibility in life is ensuring my children's faith by laying a strong foundation during their childhood. I have been through two boot camps without crying, but when it comes to things like this I get emotional!
My sister, Katelyn, and Kevin's brother, Parker, are Daniel's Godparents - you can see them directly behind us. We are so blessed to have these two fine people to help us raise Daniel as a Christian!

My pregnancy with Daniel was much like my pregnancy with Robbie. My heart issues came back, but this time it was much less scary. It was a little more challenging having a toddler to take care of this time around - no naps or early bedtimes! The last month I was ready to meet Danny and get my "body" back - you know, like the ability to see my toes and put my shoes on. Or the ability to roll over at night without the motions tossing Kevin out of bed! The last month I had contractions almost every day and night. Each time we thought "this could be it", but they would eventually go away. The good part about this is that it gets you ready for birth and you usually have a quicker birth, the bad part is that you get so used to this happening that when you do go into labor you don't really think it is happening. That is exactly what happened both times for me. This time it went like this . . .

I went to work that day (Tuesday July 13th) and picked Robbie up as usual. Kevin was going to be home late again (he had patient visits at the clinic). I brought Robbie home and cooked dinner, bathed him and put him to bed as usual - all the while I was experiencing contractions about every ten minutes. Kevin got home after 8pm. I told him that I had just started to time the contractions because they had not stopped yet. They were about five minutes apart. He got nervous and said that I should have let him know - he needed to shower and pack his bag! Well, by the time he was ready to go, I was laying on my side on the floor and calling my mom to breath with me. She was telling me that I was going too fast and needed to slow down - she was afraid that we had waited to long to leave. I think she was right, because I was half tempted to tell Kevin to just stay home with me and have the baby at home - for some reason I just didn't want to get in the car, I felt like I needed to be laying down.

We woke Robbie up and drove him to my in-laws. We then got on the interstate for the 30 minute drive to the hospital. Of course there had to be construction and traffic! Kevin was calling the hospital to let them know that I was only two minutes apart and to prepare for our arrival. They refused to call our midwife and said that the doctor on call would be the person to deliver. That TOTALLY freaked me out because I had spent a lot of time searching for the right person to deliver Danny and it was the midwife! Kevin remained perfectly calm and promised me that he would make things alright - just like he always does!

When we arrived at the hospital my contractions were right on top of one another. The doula met us at the door and wheeled me upstairs while Kevin parked the car. The nurse that checked in the laboring women told the doula there were no more rooms and to take me to the waiting room - she quickly changed her mind when she heard me moaning with my next contraction! The skipped the "in check" process and put me straight in a delivery room. I was eight centimeters dialated and moving fast! Within half an hour I was pushing.

This is where I would like to stop and let you all know that Kevin and I decided that a "natural/drug free" childbirth was the way to go. So, crazy as it may sound I never even asked for an epidural, I just went through it. I have to be honest and say that I didn't expect the pain to be as awful as it was. I had gone to seven centimeters dialation with Robbie and I didn't think the last three could be that bad - boy was I wrong!!! I am not going to lie, it was the worst pain that I could have imagined, but it was also the most unbelievable experience. It definitely is much different than an epidural birth. If you asked me today if I would do it again . . . well, I just don't know what my answer would be! Ok, so back to the story . . .

It took about an hour and a half of hard pushing to delivery Danny. It was the hardest I have ever worked - and I have gone through two boot camps and been in the military for thirteen years! I cried, cussed and asked the midwife numerous times to tell me how much longer. Kevin never left my side and gave me so much support - both physically and mentally. I have never prayed so hard in my life and just begged God to let the next push be the last, he eventually answered my prayers. When "they" say that childbirth is a way to cleanse a woman of her sins, well I must be a horrible sinner because I had a lot of repentence to do!

Daniel Patrick Lewis was born at 1:00 am (exactly, isn't that amazing?!?!) weighing 8 lbs 4 oz and measuring 20 3/4 inches. He had dark brown hair and blue eyes. He cried more than his brother did, but he seemed to know which person in the room was his Mommy! He calmed when I held him and Kevin spoke to him.

Sorry for the leg shot, but I love to look at this and remember how hard we worked to bring Danny into this world. We brought him in as a team, and we will raise him as a team too!

The unbelivable team that helped us. I could not have done it without them! Our Doula is taking the photo, but she was a part of this dream team too! The nurse on the left had never seen a drug free delivery before. After Danny was born she cried! It made me feel so good to know that the people there cared so much!!!

For a wonderfully thoughtful Christmas gift Kevin's parents bought us one night at a local bed and breakfast. It is a beautiful place and we highly recommend it (http://www.pettigruplace.com/). We chose this weekend because Kevin finished his very LAST test for school on Thursday and we wanted to celebrate the (almost) end of his four year journey to becoming a Chiropractor. As a side note, I just can't tell you how proud I am of Kevin and his amazing accomplishment. I want to shout it out, throw him a big party or somehow recognize his accomplishment, but my very humble husband doesn't want any of that! Anyway, back to the story . . . we made arrangements for Kevin's parents to watch Robbie over night. It seemed perfect since we all thought a "practice run" might be necessary since they will be watching Robbie while we are in the hospital with Danny. Well after dinner but before our movie we got a call from Kevin's parents that Robbie was running a 102/103 degree fever. Well, that is it, let's pack our bags up and go get him! At least that was our first reaction, but after discussing it with Kevin's parents they said they would keep us updated with his status but they so sweetly insisted that we continue our romantic evening (by the way, this is our first overnight without Robbie, so tramatic and exciting all at once!). Long story short, they ended up keeping Robbie all night while Kevin and I enjoyed a night at a beautiful B&B. Robbie is just teething and after some tylenol he went right to sleep and although he fussed during the night, there were no major incidents (thank God!). Kevin and I spent a while in the garden talking after our movie - we have done very little "chatting" in the past year. Most of our conversations have been about chores, school, etc. It was so nice to just relax and spend time together. We hope to do something like this again (after Danny is about Robbie's age of course!)

Also, a future post will be coming about our other activities from this weekend - we finally picked out all the material for our kitchen upgrade. Hopefully by the end of June or beginning of July everything will be in place! At least I hope so because I think I will freak if my kitchen is still all torn up when the baby comes!

Kevin is leaving for Atlanta today to begin his grueling week of studying for and taking part four national boards. It was a good good-bye for Robbie because one of his favorite words right now is good-bye while he does a cute wave. So he just kept laughing and saying good-bye, but Mommy (being preggers and very hormonal this time around) boo-hooed. You would think that I wasn't going to see him for a year - how do the military spouses do it??? I will see him on Saturday and I was acting like a fool! Poor Kevin! I am sure was thinking, stop crying, I have a million things to do but since you are CRAZY lately I better stand here and console you so I don't get into trouble!

I am so proud of my smartie pants husband - he passed Part Three National Boards!!! He is three for three so far with National Boards (plus he passed his physiotherapy national exam). He leaves on Monday to go to Atlanta for a week. He is in a class to help him study for boards Tuesday - Thursday and has Part Four National Exams on Friday and Saturday. If you have ever seen the show House, his Part Four is much like that. "The patient presents with such and such symptoms, what is wrong with him/her". This is done in actual rooms with actors as patients and a Dr. in the room to grade Kevin. This is a grueling test that covers not only Chiropratic but also medical symptoms. Please pray for him that he remembers the past four years of information and passes the test with flying colors!!!

I know, the title is a little goofy, ok really goofy. I guess that is just the mood that I am in this Monday morning. I am feeling a little bad because a few of you have mentioned how long it has been since I last blogged (don't worry, I won't name names), so I thought I would at least give an update, even though I don't have pictures available . . .

I had military duty all weekend and Kevin studied for boards so my in-laws helped watch Robbie (again). I feel so bad, we are completely wearing out our welcome by asking them to watch Robbie so often, but things are just crazy lately. In 17 days Kevin will be completely finished with all of his graduation requirements! He has part four national boards May 14th and 15th. The following week he has exit exams from clinic (basically where the school determines if they feel Kevin is worthy of a diploma from their school) and finals. The poor guy is so over loaded with work - not only at school but helping out at home since I am unable to do so many of the domestic chores/errands. I hate to brag to all of you, but simply put I have the most amazing husband in the whole world! Yes, I said it, my man is a STUD!

OK, enough of the "gross talk". As usual I have some really fun/cute pictures of Robbie in my camera that I need to download and then upload to my blog but it will probably be a while before I can do that. I have literally been traveling, working or in a birthing class for the past four weekends and my next five weekends are completely full also. I told you we were busy!!! Some big events for the Lewis family would be the scheduled visit of Grandma Cheri and Grandpa Frank (My dad and step mom) May 13 - 17, an evening at a local bed and breakfast for Kevin and I on May 20th (a fun celebration the day after he finishes all of his graduation requirements), Parker's (Kevin's youngest brother) high school graduation May 28th, a weekend at Granny and Papa's (Kevin's paternal grandparents) in southern Georgia May 29 - 31), and Kevin's graduation on June 19th!!! We are so blessed to have so many special and wonderful events coming up. It makes life so fun and makes the pregnancy seem to fly right by!

I hope the spring is going well for all of you. It is beautiful down here in sunny South Carolina! We are trying to enjoy as much of the weather as we can and we are looking forward to a fun summer. Kevin and I are already thinking about autumn and all the fun football games we plan to watch and attend! Much love to all of you and I promise to post pictures as soon as I can.

This glow worm was given to Robbie when he was born by a customer/friend of mine. He told me that it was the only thing to comfort his son (they just had twin boys too!) Robbie loves this glow worm and he is giving him a kiss in this picture.

The next two shots were of a fun night with spaghetti gone very very wrong. He is actually playing in this picture, but he looks angry! He was covered head to toe (literally) with spaghetti sauce. I saw him making this mess in the kitchen but he was having so much fun and being so cute that I couldn't stop him. Did you notice the spaghetti sauce he put in his hair?

On Friday night our wonderful dog Juneau passed away. Kevin and I are surprised at how devastated we are by his loss. He had cancer that the vet was able to cure about a year ago and apparently it had come back. He had a tumor that was pressing against his heart and lungs that was larger than the size of his heart. The tumor had spread and started to bleed.

We know that Juneau was just a dog and we are so very blessed that we all still have our health, for there are many that stuggle, but we cannot help feeling his loss. Go home today and give your little furry creatures an extra hug and treat because this was something that we wish we had done for Juneau!

On another note, I know that I promised to update my blog this weekend with pictures, but instead I spent my weekend cleaning, doing laundry and other chores so I guess I will have to wait!

Robbie is afraid of the bathtub!!!

Ever since Robbie was born he has loved his bath time. It is a struggle to even get him out of the tub. He will stay in there until the water is cool and he has goose bumps and still gets upset when you take him out.

Well, the other night I was sitting in the bathroom with Robbie while he was playing in the tub. I was enjoying a little "me" time because Robbie was distracted and I was reading from my Parent's magazine. Robbie started to make a little funny noise that I did not recognize. I looked up and asked him what was wrong. I asked him if he wanted to get out, but he did not indicated that he was ready. He stopped his noise so I went back to my reading. A second or two later he was making this noise again but more insistently. I was starting to move towards the tub when he reached into the water and put his hand out to show me what was bothering him. In his hand was little Robbie poo poo! AHHHH! I looked closer and floating in the tub was more of Robbie's little present. He started to get scared and cry (Kevin said it was because of the way I started calling out for Kevin's help, but I don't believe that - he he). Thankfully Daddy offered to clean up the mess while I took Robbie to the tub in our room and cleaned him up.

But now he starts to cry every time we have him take a bath. He is really weary of the tub now. It is kind of cute and funny, but I also feel really bad about it.

For a year and a half I have been waiting for this event to occur. I chuckled heartily as my friends with older children told me about this and now it is my turn to experience it! I guess it is a rite of passage in parenthood???

A little bit longer

Well folks, I hate to say it but you are going to have to wait a little bit longer to see the photos from my Dad and Zac's visit. I am just too busy to sit down and go through the photos and post them! I have been in LA all week for work with a bunch of my bosses (well more like my boss, and his boss and his boss). I am in the office just today (Friday) and then I work all weekend at my base. If you are thinking I can squeeze it in tonight you are sadly mistaken. By the time I get home (6pm), cook and feed Robbie and myself and clean up our mess (7pm), then bath and put him to bed (8pm) I have to pack for my weekend, get my uniform ready, shower and hit the sack because 3:30 comes around quickly, especially when Robbie will be waking up at least 4 - 6 times between 8pm and 4am!

Robbie is going to spend most of the weekend with his Nana and Papa while Kevin is studying for boards. Robbie always has so much fun there and I think Nana and Papa do too - although I am sure he wears them out as much as he does his parents!

Kevin has two weeks until part three national boards so that is pretty much our family's focus lately. The weekend after he takes boards we are planning a get away to celebrate my 30th and the end of his part 3 boards. At first we were thinking we would go out of town, but now we are thinking that will take too much effort and we may just stay in town . . . who knows! If you have any good ideas for a nice weekend please let us know - we are thinking we will ask Kevin's parents to watch Robbie so Kevin and I can get a little "off" time before our next little one gets here and we never see each other again!

It's another boy for the Lewis family!!!

We are so excited to announce that the anatomy scan went very well - all developments look great so far, which is such a relief! Of course the other exciting aspect of this ultrasound is finding out the sex of the baby (if you choose to know, of course). We wish we could be patient enough to wait, until our little one is born, but we have always opted to find out . . . oh well, there is plenty to be surprised with at the birth. Robbie is a testament to that because we were shocked to give birth to a red headed baby!

I know I still owe you belly pics, but I have not had time the past few weekends to post the picture. I am posting some ultrasound pictures, and I am sure that is what you would rather see!

My dad and brother are on their way down to visit. We can't wait to see them and spend some time together this weekend! They have experienced car trouble with two different cars on this trip and are currently sitting at a dealership somewhere in Illinois right now, so I hope and pray they make it (and in good time) today!

Winter Weather

We are suppose to get a good mix of winter weather starting this evening and lasting through tomorrow. We had originally wanted to get out of the house and do something outside this weekend, but with this weather it looks like we will be spending some nice family time indoors. We are going to stock up on firewood, food and movies and settle in for a nice winter weekend. I might even surprise Kevin by making his favorite winter dish - Shepards Pie. I also have some pictures of Robbie to upload as well as belly pic of little jelly bean. He/she has finally made their debut - it is like my belly grew overnight! I can't wait to meet this little one and have my two babies playing together! This morning Kevin was talking to my belly and I could feel the baby move while he was speaking! I am so blessed!!!

Just teasing! I know I don't have baby belly pictures yet, but I thought I would let you all know that I am finally feeling little Jelly Bean move! Kevin can't wait until the baby gets big enough for him to feel the movements! Robbie is now constantly trying to pull up my shirt to check out my growing belly. When we ask him where the baby is he points to my belly. It is so sweet! I can't wait to get my two babies together!

We have one more month until we find out the baby's sex. The boy name is probably finished, but the girl name will be a huge debate between Kevin and I . . . we can't seem to find a name that we both like.

All is well in the Lewis household . . . we are as busy as ever, but that hasn't changed in a while. We went to LA with Robbie last week. Kevin had a seminar and I had a work trip. We have decided after going to Iowa and then to LA that Robbie is not a traveling man and we will probably stay home for a while!

It is suppose to be snowy/rainy here this weekend so no big plans for us. Kevin will be studying for boards so Robbie and I will probably run some errands and watch movies at home. Well, Robbie will play and I will watch movies!

Haitian Support

I offer up my prayers for those suffering in Haiti. It is a BEAUTIFUL country with wonderful people who have so very little. In church this past Sunday the pastoral committee said that they are taking up a collection for Catholic Relief Services (CRS), which has a large office in Port-au-Prince. Coincidentally, on Monday morning I heard the man in charge of the Port-au-Prince CRS office on the radio. The CRS building itself (in Port-au-Prince) is ruined but they are still operating out of a tent set up in their location. He was saying that although they have lost their building they are able to continue helping the community, but are in desperate need of supplies. CRS has a warehouse in the Dominican Republic which is trucking in supplies daily but they (the Dominican location, which has airport services) will need to be replenished in order to continue servicing the Port-au-Prince location. CRS in Port-au-Prince is also assisting a couple of local orphanages which are in desperate need at this time. I know there are many ways to donate money to help (Red Cross, Church, etc), but I thought I would add the CRS webpage to my blog in case anyone was interested.

We did a shameful job of taking pictures in Iowa. We were just too busy enjoying the moments ourselves, but I am kicking myself now. We were there for two weeks and saw all of my side of the family. Including my 89 year old Grandfather who met us half way in a small town for a homemade lunch at a family restaurant - that was REALLY special! It was freezing the entire trip, our last day was - 20 degrees! We had over two feet of snow and were actually snowed in for a couple of days, it was pretty nice! I hope you all had wonderful holidays and a great start to a new year!

Crib, Toddler Bed or Big Boy Bed - that is the question

For all you moms out there who have made the switch from crib to something else, please send in your expert advice . . .

The Facts:

Robbie is currently 15 months old
He is a HORRIBLE sleeper
Robbie does not climb out of his crib yet (thank goodness)
Baby #2 is going to be sleeping in the current crib from day one - and I mean it this time!!!
Robbie is moving into our guest bedroom for his "big boy room"
We need as easy and cheap of a solution as possible

The Options:

Put a crib from Kevin's aunt and uncle in his room until he is ready for a toddler or big boy bed
We were graciously offered Kevin's bunk beds from when he was growing up
Buy a toddler sized bed (I think Robbie would have fun playing in a toddler bed with a theme (car, cartoon, etc) but I am not sure if it would be enough to encourage him to sleep in it plus we really don't want to spend a ton of money on this switch)

Kevin and I are trying to determine what would be the best solution for Robbie and for us. With Robbie's young age and being such a difficult sleeper we were leaning towards the crib and then we can switch to the bunk beds (with side guard rails, of course) when he shows signs of being ready. What do you all think??? What worked for each of you???

I want to spend some time (yeah right, when do I ever have some of that???) updating my blog. For those of you that have layouts that are not one of the blogspot ones can you please tell me where you went to get them? I just spent a bit of time googling it and came up with nothing! Thanks!

While I am here I might as well give you a little update on the Lewis family . . .

We are settled back into the house after our two week trip to Iowa. We were able to get the Christmas decorations down in a timely manner which is shocking! Robbie is back in daycare and he managed to adjust to it just fine. Sleeping is another thing, he is basically back to waking up all night long. Kevin and I are pretty worn out and trying to figure out what we can do to get this kid sleeping through the night so we don't go crazy with the arrival of baby number two! Kevin and I agree that if we can find a "Supernanny" to come to the house and help us we would totally pay for it!!! I know they have lactation consultants but do they have "help my toddler never sleeps" consultants??? Kevin is very busy with school and his internship. We are still praying about what he should do once he graduates. We will hopefully know more within 3 - 6 months. If you think of it, please keep us in your prayers concerning this subject! I am busy with work, military duty and household duties. It seems this work is never ending, but I did get a chance to take a relaxing bath the other day - my first one in over a year! This used to be a weekly treat for me - but that was back in my single I don't have a care in the world days! Kevin and I are planning on taking time this weekend for our third date since Robbie was born, that's right folks date number three in 15 months! Not good, we need more Mommy/Daddy time! I can't really blame it on Robbie though, it is really Kevin's fault with his horrible schedule!

Hopefully I can find the time to update my pictures soon - I haven't updated since Halloween!!! Shameful!

Big News

Well fellow bloggers, it has been a LONG time since my last post. I know I owe you lots of pictures and stories, and I will get there some day soon - PROMISE!

But there is one thing that I have been dying to post . . . and now that I have finally told all our families, I can now announce to everyone else . . . We are expecting baby #2!

We are due July 19th. We announced to Kevin's family at Thanksgiving but I wanted to wait until I saw my family in person so we told my family at Christmas. It was so much fun! We bought Robbie a shirt that on the front said "I know something you don't know" and on the back it said "I am going to be a BIG BROTHER". It was so much fun to have Robbie wear the shirt until everyone noticed! I will try to get him to sit still long enough to get a picture of the shirt!

Catching Up

Well, I am behind in my blogs once again. I actaully do have a few pictures, but it is the time required to post them that I don't have. Kevin is wrapping up his quarter and is getting home around 8 or 9 at night. So that leaves me to get Robbie home, fed, bathed and in bed. By the time I have that done I only have enough energy to clean up and get into bed - so sorry everyone, but that is our reality right now. Hopefully things will slow down a bit as he gets closer to graduating, but I am not holding my breath!

On a similar note, if anyone wants to come help me fold and put about 10 loads of laundry away tonight it would be greatly appreciated! ;)

I will try to post before we leave on the 20th for Christmas, but if you don't hear from us until after the new year, please do not be surpirsed. We are going to be in Iowa from the 20th of December until the 2nd of January. Kevin and I return to work/school on the 4th. I am desperately trying to get Christmas cards out, but please do not be surprised if that doesn't happen either!!! We are thinking of all of you and praying for you to have a safe and very Merry Christmas and New Years!

Kevin and I were so fortunate to attend an Auburn game this year with Kyle and Meghan (Kevin's brother and his wife). We had a lot of fun driving down to the game and listen to Iowa win on the satelite radio (or at least I had a lot of fun doing that!) and when we arrived we had time to eat a bite and check out the campus. Nana and Papa watched Robbie on their first overnight visit and of course he went to bed easily and slept through the night - now why can't he do that when we are home???

He Did It!!!

It's official! Kevin passed his part two and physiotherapy national boards. Not only did he pass, he did really really well on them . . . again! His first boards were days before my due date. He was really stressed and managed to get really high scores. This past exam he struggled to balance his needs at school, in the clinic and at home and he still managed to do very well! I am so impressed with Kevin and his ability to manage all of the stressful responsibilities in his life. We are truly blessed!

He still has to take part three in March and part four in May. He is already preparing himself for these tests and will hopefully hit the books hard after the holidays. We pray he does well on these tests as well, since a delay in these tests will cause a delay in graduation.

Thanks for all of your thoughts and prayers - they worked!
